The Dance

They entered the place of shining white lights on each others arms. Though they could not see where the music came, they could hear the first discordant notes coming from the right of them. The music started slow.

The two little girls rounded onto the dance floor. Pastel dresses made of taffeta and lace moved in wide circles around them. A waltz came out of the discordant music. The taller of the two girls took the hand of the other and began to lead her around the floor. This dance was slow, in time with the music. The place was shining so brightly; they could not see if they had earned any spectators.

Around and around they moved, in countless circles of slow moving steps. Pink and purple glitter painted the eyes and cheeks of both girls, sparkling as they grinned. A smaller circle was formed within the circle of their own arms. Then the music picked up without pause or warning.

Two little girls spun away from each other, bodies already moving in time with the vibration of a new beat. Cheeky eyes gazed out towards an audience that they had attracted, inviting the others to join even as they shrugged their shoulders to relieve themselves of a fabric that had become heavy and cloying.

The dresses shifted from their shoulders, slipping over bust and hips to betray dark and bold colours of shifts underneath. Bright grins from the girls became contagious as nearby creatures of fae enthusiastically came into the stone circle to join the dance.

Some quotes that need immortalising [10 Nov 2009|07:51am]

[ music | Alice Cooper - Salvation ]

From the Arch Enemy line:

Joe: "What genre would you say Opeth is?"
Lewi: "Progressive Death Metal."
Joe: "Cool. I'd call it Progressive, Organic, Grow-Your-Own Metal."

From One is Warm in Winter, the Other has a Better View rehearsals:

Sinead: "Have you done something new with your hair, Caitlin?"
Caitlin: "No..."
Adam: "I sometimes think that too, but it's just because she washes it every once in a while."

Lynch stuff elsewhere on LJ [08 Nov 2009|10:18am]

Couple things I saw recently people might like.

My amazing Friend [info]mandy_moon & her husband did totally rad Eraserhead costumes. Check her photos out, I'm serious. Even if you've never seen the movie the Lynchianism is amazing.

[info]shoopdancer, a vidder (who edits existing footage with pop songs to make fan music videos), did three on Twin Peaks, that you can either watch on YouTube or download:

Running Up That Hill, very stylishly presenting the Laura murder mystery. And after all, if *SPOILER* only could, he'd make a deal with Bob, and get him to swap their places.

Chemisty Of A Car Crash is a cool and fairly steamy collection of Shelly & Bobby scenes.

Out Of Control very cleverly juxtaposes existing footage to create an Audrey & Bobby love (or at least lust) story.

Hope you enjoy!

And on the twentith hour of the first day of the second week of NaNo, she began her first thousand words.

On the twenty-first hour of the first day of the second week of NaNo, she began to realise this may not have been the best of all of her ideas that day.

Cause I can't do no writing during NaNo. Of course, I have been ill for an awfully long time. This might come out as quite delirious. Let's see how it goes. Written to, and inspired by, Placebo's song The Crawl.

Chibi, vocalist of The Birthday Massacre, on Twilight:

"Which leads me to something else I really want to understand: TWILIGHT. I saw the movie and I am so, so sorry but I thought it was horrible. Laughably bad. Maybe this is because I'm more of a Lost-Boys-style of vampire lover. But I definitely like to get into the spirit of these sort of "fads" (god, I do sound old). Harry Potter was a huge thing, and I read those books. So I decided I would read the Twilight Series. I wanted to understand the hype.

Er, are any of you into Twilight?

Because I am three quarters done Breaking Dawn (the fourth and final book) and I mean... maybe I just don't get it. I will write more about this when I actually finish the whole thing, but... I have to say, Bella is MEAN. She's completely ungrateful and unkind and selfish and completely unlikeable. And Edward...???? Urrrgh. Again, maybe it's because I like the concept of the vampire with the leather jacket and the motorcycle, not the vampire with the beige cabled pullover and khaki pants and Volvo. If you like Twilight, and have read all the books, I would love to hear your thoughts on this. And I am going to write a full blog about this when I am done, because... I think Twilight is important, because it is so popular and women young and old are getting behind it ferociously, and I wanted so badly to understand why, and I really hoped that there was going to be some level of empowering positivity being fed to these people and I feel like there really isn't.

Team Jacob, by the way."

I think I just fell in love with her a little more ;) Especially since she's actually looking for considered opinions of people who did like it. But to her current thoughts? Much applause.

One is Warm in Winter, the Other has a Better View [06 Nov 2009|07:43am]

[ mood | excited ]
[ music | Gary Numan - Cars ]

Written by Adam J A Cass (‘I Love You, Bro’, Malthouse 2009), ‘One Is Warm in Winter, The Other Has A Better View’ is a gloriously theatrical, deeply poetic large cast play about faith in all its diversity and difference, and about its place in the lives of young people in Melbourne today. Transcending politics and the highly fraught topic of religion as it relates to so many of the world’s struggles, the play moves beyond to tell a darkly funny story about the connection of faith to our ability to love and be loved.

Written for and with the Platform Youth Theatre Ensemble (gathered together for this project from members of various faith groups, as well as others with defiantly non-faith backgrounds), the story has been created over several months through wide-ranging discussions, interviews, surveys, and in workshops led by the play’s director, Caitlin Dullard.

‘One is Warm in Winter, the Other Has a Better View’ is a beautiful, profoundly moving new play which explores the core of this rich topic, and the essence of what it is to be human.

[ music | Combichrist - Shut up and Swallow ]

Today I met Daniel Erlandsson, the drummer of Arch Enemy and Carcass, for the second time :) Very cool, as he is one of my absolute favourite drummers... possibly even in my top three, along with Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) and Jeroen Simons (ex-Epica).

It was a signing session at Drumtek in Northcote, quite a groovy and expansive store that sells - you guessed it - all sorts of drumming paraphernalia.

Hung out with my friend Maria before the signing; we've met at a number of gigs, and she has the distinction of quite possibly being Daniel's biggest fan in Australia. She was, however, on her best behaviour ;) Ran into some other guys I'd met before too, though we couldn't remember exactly where - possibly Iron Maiden. Callum and... something. Callum's dad gave me a samosa, and it was good. Hopefully I'll catch up with them again at Dream Theater.

Anyway, got my copy of Rise of the Tyrant signed, as well as the free poster Drumtek supplied us all with. Daniel is extremely laid-back, but also friendly. Both of us being fairly laconic though, not a great deal of words were exchanged between us. Stuff like, "How's Australia treating you?" "Really good!" "May I take a photo with you?" "Sure!" and so forth...

Unfortunately, the photo is very out of focus. I think the camera was actually focusing on the dust on the lens. Last time I tried to take a picture with Daniel after the Carcass gig, it failed too. Third time's a charm?

Blurry Lewi and Daniel! )

Would've been a good photo, too...

Tomorrow is the in-store with Arch Enemy / Carcass guitarist Michael Amott, then my meet 'n' greet with the whole band, then the show! Should be most excellent...

Sick and sympathy [04 Nov 2009|12:36pm]

[ music | Muse - Bliss ]

I love my boss. I called in this morning, for what must be about the fourth time in three weeks, saying that I was ill, again, and is there another day this week that I could make up today?

She said: No, no, don't come in until Monday. That'll give you the time you need to get better. Spend today having a rest.

I love my uni. I emailed a teacher that I'm supposed to be meeting tomorrow, apologising for not returning her email earlier, due to having been ill.

She said: Sorry to hear you weren't well again. Take care, and see you tomorrow!

Your soul can't hate anything
Everything about you is so easy to love
Everything about you resonates happiness
Now I won't settle for less

Now I'm listening to Muse and wondering if pretty puppy eyes might get me home cooked chicken soup from my best friend tonight.

a couple questions [01 Nov 2009|10:45pm]

[unappropriate]
so i'm rewatching season two again, and a couple things have come up.

first, does anyone know who kevin young, jr. was? the season premiere was dedicated to his memory.

next, two questions that i feel like at some point i knew the answer to, but have forgotten: do we ever find out who it was that called the police station for harry, but wouldn't tell lucy who they were?

also, back to season one, do we ever find out who the mystery man behind the tree in the woods with leo was?

thanks!

The first November without NaNo [01 Nov 2009|10:46pm]

persephone_20
[ mood | content ]

This is the first time in about 4 years that I haven't done any creative writing on November 1st.
.....
I was even going to write up some token thing on here. But now I don't think I can be assed.

Beltaine is win. Beltaine is Christmas for pagans, complete with (for some) exciting people to unwrap during, before and afterward the day :P Beltaine is clubbing. Beltaine is yum cha. Beltaine is fires and friends and barbecues and, holy fuck, barbecues isn't spelt with a "q"??!

Cup weekend is only half over and, gods, have we really spent this much money already? Cup weekend is chilling out, and clothes swapping, and boardgames.

November is late spring, is sun showers, is four seasons in one day. November is getting the lyrics for Four Seasons in One Day stuck in one's head. November is listening to Porcupine Tree. November is gazing out a window on days when you'll get sunburned if you go outside and it's so very pleasant inside with a book. November is finishing exams, is the end of school for the year. November is sharing love with one's partner. November is smiles, is anniversaries, is new houses. November is no longer looking like a word..

This year is taking November back, is shaking fists of determination to do it.

Friday night / morning I was oh-so-Gawth, last night I was oh-so-Pagan.

Headed out to the lovely Jess' Halloween party, where it turned out I knew nobody except Jess herself. Still, met some nice people to hold conversation with, and sat in the carport watching the lightning storm. Beautiful, clear view of the sky over Mernda, so we were most excellently positioned. Musical accompaniment included Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper, which certainly added to the awesome.

A while into the night, I ran into a couple of other Pagans - an occultist of similar bent to myself, a Satanist, and a neophyte who was still investigating the different paths open to her. We left the party for a bit, and headed off to do some Beltaine stuff. Interesting and powerful results, and I must say, the neophyte has some serious potential. Kinda cool to be part of a fairly dark circle, and yet still get something very much in the spirit of Beltaine. I'm definitely hoping to meet up with those people again - they were talented, especially for their age, all being younger than me.

Oh, and the theme of the party was Wicked / fractured fairytales, so I went as Prince Charming of the Evil Empire :) Will post photo if it makes it onto Jess' Facebook...

So, one week ago I had the pleasure of having Cherry Pie and a damn fine cup of coffee at the diner that stood in for the RR.

The coffee was indeed damn fine, the pie was actually excellent. The diner itself was a little sketchy, to be honest. It didn't look that clean, and some of it was in disrepair, but it was still a lot of fun. The HUGE collection of publicity stills wallpapering the back hall on the way to the bathroom, along with the complete collection of Peaks trading cards was worth the viewing.

The server was actually adorable. She was a really sweet college-age girl, who was a big fan of Twin Peaks and was happy to chatter with us about the show, the fans that come the fans that come through, and the celebrities who love Twin Peaks and have come through.

I got a Twin Peaks coffee mug.

It was fun. :)
